Sicilian Dragon Setup

Search Sicilian Dragon positions — Black bishop on g7 with the typical d6 and g6 pawn structure. One of chess's sharpest, most heavily theorized openings.

About this pattern

The Sicilian Dragon takes its name from the diagonal sweep of the black bishop on g7 — the dragon's tail. Combined with the typical Sicilian central pawns on d6 and a kingside fianchetto via g6, it produces some of the sharpest, most theoretically charged positions in chess. The Yugoslav Attack and Accelerated Dragon variations feature opposite-side castling races where pawn storms and tactical accuracy decide the outcome.
